Brief Explanation Toward Digital Radiography

Digital radiography has been a brilliant breakthrough in medical, security, aerospace, and any other fields. By using this technology, doing imaging function will be easier and much more practical.

Unlike the traditional X-Ray imaging technology, which is unpractical and ineffective, the digital radiography provides you many advantages that other kinds of imaging technologies don’t. And to find out what this device actually is, how does it works, and more detail information about it, just refer to below explanation.

What is Digital Radiography

Digital Radiography is kind of X-ray imaging which uses X-ray sensor to capture image. But, the basic difference between this kind of radiography and the traditional way of X-ray imaging is on their image capturing media.

In X-ray imaging, this device uses X-ray film, while digital kind of radiography employs digital devices to capture image. With this digital kind of image capturing media, user can preview the image result instantly. Moreover, it will also consume less money since you don’t need to spend more money to buy X-ray film.

Further, the advantages of using digital radiography come also come to several other aspects, on the image quality for example. By using digital image capturing technique, therefore, it will be easy for you to add some special image processing method, so that the image quality will get better. And also, the use of digital technology in producing the image will affect on the less radiation caused than when you use an X-ray film.

The History

Brief Explanation Toward Digital Radiography.(1)

The early stage of digital radiography was started at 1960. It was a U.S. radio engineer named James F. McNulty who invented the apparatus while developing equipment for onboard nondestructive testing (NDT).

This apparatus is very first device that was able to be generated digitally with an X-ray. This equipment works by employing fluorescent screen in the fluoroscope to detect square wave signal before an image created.

How Digital Radiography Works

Brief Explanation Toward Digital Radiography(1)

Basically, digital radiography comes in two kinds, direct and indirect. The direct radiography is the one that is connected to the computer directly. This kind of radiography is connected to the host device through USB, so that it can provide you an immediate image. While for the case of indirect ones, it is connected to the computer by using digitally scanned-radiated plate.

For the direct digital radiography, the flow of image capturing is quite simple. The X-ray will capture the image, and transfer it to the computer via USB. But, for the case of digital indirect radiograph, the flow will be a little bit complicated. It employs reusable plate. This plate will be placed in special scanner after the X-ray exposure. Then the latent image is formed by retrieving point by point and digitalizing them by using laser scanning.

Digital Radiography Needs SDPPI Approval before marketed in Indonesia

As stated before, digital radiography employs radio signal to get work. And it is generally known that every single device that employs frequency is classified as the post and telecommunication device. That’s why before marketed in Indonesia, Digital Radiography needs to obtain SDPPI Type approval.

This rule is based on the Indonesian regulation No. 16 Tahun 2018 about telecommunication devices certification. It stated that every communication device that still being produced, assembled, used and traded in Indonesian territory, is mandatory to have type approval certification. Therefore, to comply with this regulation, digital radiography needs to be certified if they are about to be distributed in around Indonesia.
