An Explanation to WiGig

WiGig, narmadi.com. The trend toward wireless technology has been viral these days. People prefer to use something more instant and easy. Moreover, wireless technology also offers the user something much simpler than any other way of data transferring.

By using it, user no longer needs to deal with tangled cables since the data transfer can be done wirelessly. That’s why many people suggest it for the one who concerns about aesthetical view. Further, talking about wireless technology, there is a new technology which is predicted to replace the current one. It is WiGig.

Let’s find out in the following explanation.

What is WiGig actually?

Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig), Transferring Files in Seconds

We might have familiar enough with WiFi. But WiGig, this technology is rarely to be used. That’s why this technology has a slow development compared to WiFi. Just like WiFi, WiGig also offer the wireless connection. Therefore, there will be no cable‘s needed anymore. And also, the connection will be much faster with the bigger capacity too.

With this functionality, many people predict that this kind of wireless technology will be able to achieve its popularity and replace the current WiFi network. And to get deeper understanding about this technology, let’s go down below.

The History of WiGig

Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig), Transferring Files in Seconds.

In May 2009, there was information about the new technology that promotes IEEE 802.11 ad protocol called WiGig. Several months later, in December 2009, the first version of WiGig is officially announced.

WiGig stands for Wireless Gigabit Alliance, this is an alliance that was merged into the WiFi alliance in March 2013. This alliance promotes mostly about multi-gigabit transfer capacity per second.

To run this function, this wireless technology operates over the 60 GHz frequency band, which is still unlicensed.

Then, on September 2013, the alliance announced that the newest version of USB wireless will use this protocol as a standard. This policy is taken under the agreement between USB implementer and WiFi alliance itself.

It is stated in this agreement that the newest version of wireless USB would certainly use the drivers of USB 2.0 and 3.0. Further, WiFi alliance will WiGig transmission to the USB implementer, so it could be implemented functionally.

Specifications

For the specification, WiGig has relatively different specification compared to WiFi. This is something obvious since their specializations are also different. WiGig enables devices to communicate with each other and transfer data in multi-gigabit speed.

Especially for 3 band WiGig device, the speed rate of it could achieve 7Gbit/s, it is 11 times faster compared to the most advance 802.11n rate. This rate can be achieved by operating in 2.4, 5, and 60 GHz bands.

Further, one of the uniqueness of this technology is on its band signal. For the 60 GHz band it uses, indeed the signal generally is not able to get through the wall. But, this lack can be overcome nicely by propagating the signal in walls, floors, ceiling, and other objects by using a part called “beam-forming”.

This beam-forming is installed inside the device, and work properly to propagate signal so it could be delivered to the user. Moreover, when the user moves away from the room, the signal will be switched into the lower band and at lower rate too.

With such a good start, it is justified for us to predict that this technology is capable to dominate the market. This is also supported by the fact that people typically look for the high speed in data transferring now.

Further, this application of this technology will also support the other technology that requires high speed of data transfer. After all, we hope that it could be really implemented, so it will bring more good for more people.
