Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN) is a wireless technology designed for short-range communications with low power consumption. LR- WPAN is increasingly being used in various Internet of Things (IoT) applications, from smart homes to health.
All LR-WPAN devices circulating in Indonesia must ensure their quality, safety, and compliance with applicable regulations through testing standards.
These LR-WPAN testing benchmarks are contained in the Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital No. 260 of 2024 which directs different specialized angles, extending from radio recurrence, and transmitting control, to testing methods.

New Regulations on LR-WPAN Technology

KEPMEN KOMINFO No. 260 Year 2024 specifies LR-WPAN operational frequencies to ensure devices work without interfering with other devices.
This control covers radio recurrence prerequisites, greatest transmit control, and testing for wild outflows (spurious emissions).
The following are the standard specifications:
| Radio Frequency Band | RF output power | Transmitter Spurious Emission | Testing Method |
| 314 – 316 MHz | ≤ 10 dBm ERP | EN 300 220-1 | EN 300 220-1 |
| 433 – 434.79 MHz | ≤ 10 dBm ERP | EN 300 220-1 | EN 300 220-1 |

LR-WPAN Testing Standards

Spurious emission testing
Spurious emissions are unwanted signals emitted outside the device’s working frequency band. Spurious emission control aims to prevent interference with other devices.
Spurious emission limits:
Stray emissions must be below the thresholds specified in international standards EN 300 220, FCC 15.209, and FCC 15.247.
Testing is carried out using devices such as spectrum analyzers.
Test method:
EN 300 220: Main standard for LR-WPAN testing.
FCC 15.249 and FCC 15.247: To ensure international compatibility.
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
EMC testing ensures LR-WPAN devices:
- Not disturbed by electromagnetic interference from other devices.
- Does not cause electromagnetic interference that affects other devices.
Test standards:
EN 301 489-1: For general electromagnetic compatibility.
EN 301 489-3: Only for Short Range Devices (SRD) devices.
Goal: Ensure LR-WPAN devices work well in dense electromagnetic environments.
Non-ionizing radiation testing
Because LR-WPAN devices are often used near users, KEPMEN KOMINFO No. 260 of 2024 regulates non-ionizing radiation limits to ensure user safety.
Test Method:
Measurements are carried out using special equipment to verify that radiation levels are within the safe limits set by ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection).
Goal: Protect the user’s health and ensure the device is safe for long-term use.
LR-WPAN Certification Process in Indonesia

For LR-WPAN devices to be used legally in Indonesia, certification from DJID is required. Here are the steps to get it:
Pre-testing the device
After passing the pre-testing arrangement, the gadget will be sent to an assigned official research facility to experience testing by the benchmarks stipulated in ensuring contraptions meet specialized rules a few times as of late being attempted in authorized inquiries about offices.
Testing at an official laboratory
After passing the pre-testing stage, the device will be sent to a designated official laboratory to undergo testing by the standards stipulated in the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Communication and Digital No. 260 of 2024.
Issuance of certificates
Issuance of certificates after the contraption passes testing, an official certificate will be issued by DJID. This certificate is a prerequisite to promoting the contraption honestly in Indonesia.
Tips to Ensure Standards Compliance
- Learn the most recent controls: Make past any question you get each detail of the Minister Decree from Communication and Digital No. 260 of 2024, tallying specialized prerequisites and test methodologies.
- Perform pre-testing: At some point as of late official testing, perform pre-testing to ensure the contraption meets rules. If you don’t have a measuring instrument, utilize the DJID certification service which gives pre-testing organizations.
- Consult an expert: If this is your start with time looking for certification, consider utilizing the organizations of experienced DJID certification organizations.
