Sonic Branding

Audio Logo Design

An audio logo is the shortest thing we make and the hardest to get right. It has a few seconds to say which company is talking, and it has to keep working after someone has heard it four hundred times.

What you get

A primary audio logo, delivered in the formats your teams actually use, plus the variations that keep it usable in real life. A shorter cut for pre roll. A quieter version for interfaces. A version that survives a phone speaker in a noisy room, because that is where a lot of listening happens.

We also write down where each version belongs. Without that, the file gets used in the wrong place within a month and the identity starts to blur.

How we approach it

We start with the brief, not the melody. What the brand does, who it is talking to, what it should feel like at the moment the sound plays. A logo for a certification company and a logo for a daycare are solving different problems, even if both need to be three seconds long. You can hear that difference across the five identities on our Our Work page.

Then we write and perform options, and we narrow them down with you. We favor real performance over generated audio, and that preference is tested rather than assumed. We ran a blind comparison and wrote up what it revealed.

Length, and why it matters

Most audio logos land between two and five seconds, but the right answer depends on where it plays. We go into the reasoning in How Long Should an Audio Logo Be?.

Before you commission one

An audio logo on its own is not a sonic identity. It is one component of a system, and commissioning the component without the system is the most common way this work gets wasted. We explain the distinction in What Is an Audio Logo, and Why One Sound File Isn't Enough.

If you want the whole system rather than the signature alone, see Sonic Identity System.
