Sun rises from the east. It’s the perfect analogy for smart watch market in 2017. With many products comes to the market, there is one that shining brighter than others. It’s Huawei Watch 2, the new smartwatch device from Chinese rising electronic manufacturer, Huawei.

Huawei Watch 2 Review

This is a successor of the previous Huawei Watch which was released back in 2015. Officially announced at CES 2017, the new Huawei Watch brings more desirable upgrades from the predecessor.

Curious with what Huawei has done in the second edition of their smart Watch? Here’s Huawei Watch 2 Review; a review of new wearable device from Huawei.

Huawei Watch 2 Review

Come face to face with LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport, Huawei Watch 2 is equipped with more connectivity and feature which are forced to be fitted in such a smaller device.

In fact, the watch is indeed stores more things than any other watch in the market. As a result, the thickness is increased, makes it looks a bit chunkier.

And unlike the previous edition which has traditional and classic look, in this new edition Huawei offers more rugged and sportier look of a smart watch. Check the detail of our review below.

Design

Design is an essential topic in this Huawei Watch 2 Review. As other smart watch products in the market, Huawei Watch 2 is provided in 2 different options; “standard” option for sportier look, and “classic” for more traditional look of a watch.

Although physically they look different, but there is no significant difference in term of specification.

With more rugged look, the standard version will be perfect to be used as companion while we’re doing fitness and sport activity. And for the classic one that has more traditional look, it will be perfect to be used on meeting or any other formal occasions.

Design
Huawei Watch 2 Classic

In term of material and construction, both standard and classic are totally different. Like what I’ve mentioned before, the standard trim is perfect for doing outdoor activities.

This is due to the use of changeable silicone strap in it. So it can perfectly endure the sweat. Moreover, it also has ceramic bezel and thermoplastic case for lighter weight and minimum heat.

While on the classic trim, leather strap and stainless steel case will provide you more elegant and premium impression.

This model has similar design with Samsung Galaxy Gear S3. Check Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 design in this page.

Talking appearance, most of Huawei Watch 2 Review says that Huawei Watch 2 looks smaller but a bit chunkier.

It comes with 45 x 48.3 x 12.6mm body dimension which is paired with 60.5 grams of weight for classic trim, and 57 grams of weight for standard trim. With this light weight and small dimension, you can barely notice when you’re using this watch on your hand.

In addition, Huawei has also equipped this smart watch with IP68 certification. It means that you can bring the watch 2 under water up to 1.5 meter of depth in 30 minutes.

Screen

In the display sector, Huawei has equipped Watch 2 with 1.2-inch AMOLED display with 390 x 380 pixel of screen resolution. The use of this display affects on the quality of the pictures shown which is vivid, bright and more vibrant.

Moreover, this display also has ambient light sensor to make the watch able to adjust the screen brightness. And the good news is, the AMOLED screen seems to manage power better than the ordinary LED panels.

The control is pretty easy. As stated in most of this review, the OS now relies almost fully on the swipe gesture. You can easily swipe from the screen edge to do navigation.

However, due to the small screen it has, the screen navigation is a bit difficult, especially for them who has big finger.  Luckily, Watch 2 from Huawei also provides crown button. Not just one, but two. You can use one crown button to access apps, while the other one can be used as a shortcut button.

Specs

It’s been stated previously in the beginning of this review that this Watch has something more than other smartwatch products in the market. In the data processing, a Snapdragon Wear 2100 planted beneath the watch. This processor is also teamed up with 768 MB of RAM for better performance.

You may find other smart watch product in the market will work optimally with a companion of smartphone. But, the case is different in Huawei Watch 2.

This watch can work independently without being connected to your smartphone. The only reason is that this edition of Huawei Watch has been completed with mobile network connectivity support and nanoSIM slot which can be used for eSIM as well.
