India: Draft of Equipment Operating in 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz Bands

On April 7, 2026, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) of India released a draft of equipment operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands. This is part of the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) program.

The release of the draft of equipment operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands invites all stakeholders to participate by providing feedback. To provide feedback, you need to be aware of several key points contained in the draft.

Key Points of the Draft of Equipment Operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz Bands

Variant of Product Mention on Draft of Equipment Operating

Essentially, the draft of equipment operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands covers all types, ranging from Wi-Fi Access Points, Wi-Fi Controllers, Wi-Fi Base Stations, and Point-to-Point Systems.

Variants of these products include PTP and PMP Wireless Access Equipment operating at 2.4, 5, or 6 GHz, Wi-Fi Access Points and CPE, and WLAN Controller Equipment.

For details on the variants, please refer to the document below:

In general, this draft covers several technical requirements for radio compliance, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), electrical safety, and relevant equipment interfaces.

Parameters for Radio Interfaces

Equipment operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands has radio interface parameters for equipment operating in unlicensed frequency bands. This is described in Annex G3 of this draft.

The following table shows the radio compliance parameters for equipment operating in the unlicensed 2.4, 5, or 6 GHz frequency bands.

Impact on India Type Approval

The draft of equipment operating in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands will certainly have an impact on India type approval. This may alter certain technical requirements for TEC MTCTE certification.

The regulations, once finalized, will serve as the testing reference for equipment operating in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequency bands. Therefore, industry players—including manufacturers, importers, and distributors—need to review their equipment to gradually align with the planned standards.
