What is Type Approval?
Type Approval is a process conducted to ensure that a telecommunications device meets established minimum standards for quality, safety, security, and performance. Each country has different local processes, regulations, and standards regarding this matter.
Generally, the type approval certification process includes local testing and document evaluation. Some countries require both of these steps, while others require only one.
Typically, testing covers Radio Frequency (RF), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), and Electrical Safety. In some countries, certain products may also require additional testing, such as Laser Safety and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).
From these tests, you will receive a test report. Next, the test report will be compiled with other documents for submission to the relevant regulatory authority in a given country. Documents that pass the evaluation will receive type approval certification, which serves as legal authorization to market and use the device in the target country.
Beyond meeting administrative requirements, this certification also confirms that your device is safe and does not interfere with other devices when in use. Customer trust will also increase when using a certified device.
